The 2009 Indian Premier League season will be the second season of the Indian Premier League, established by the BCCI in 2007. The second edition is scheduled between April 10 and May 24, 2009. The format of the tournament would remain unchanged from the 2008 season format. The eight franchises will first play against one another in a league on home-and-away basis. The top four teams will then figure in the two semi-finals and a final. The number of international players allowed in any one squad was increased from 8 to 10 although the number allowed in any playing 11 remains at 4. Four new franchises will join the IPL in 2010-11.

Favourites Lahore Badshahs lived up to their reputation and annexed the ICL Twenty20 League title after an easy eight-wicket win over Hyderabad Heroes in the third final on Sunday. Imran Nazir cracked a huge six to land the winning runs as Lahore won the best-of-three finals 2-1.

The 2009 Indian Premier League season, abbreviated as IPL 2 or the 2009 IPL, is the second season of the Indian Premier League, established by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2007.
The tournament is hosted by South Africa and is scheduled between 18 April and 24 May 2009. The estimated television audience in India alone is over 200 million people.

The Champions Twenty20 League, formed with the official sanction of ICC will kick off in October 2008. Eight domestic teams from four nations will participate. Cricket Australia will partner the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and Cricket South Africa (CSA). The champion team in the Champions Twenty20 league will get US $5 million, which is the highest ever prize money for a cricket event.
